Collaboration, community and social value were at the heart of a recent volunteering project at South & Central Walsall Family Hub, where our team joined forces with Walsall Council and Bowmer + Kirkland to help create a more welcoming space for local families and visitors.
Bringing Social Value to Life
As a commercial landscaping business, we know that the impact of our work can extend far beyond the finished landscape.
Social value is a key priority within our business and we’re committed to using our skills, knowledge, time and resources to make a positive contribution to the communities in which we work.
Our recent visit to South & Central Walsall Family Hub was a great example of this in action.
On a Saturday, members of our team rolled up their sleeves and got to work alongside Walsall Council and Bowmer + Kirkland, helping to improve the outdoor space and create a more comfortable, enjoyable environment for the families and visitors who use the hub.

From Hedges to Planters: Getting Stuck In
The team delivered and installed a new bench, strimmed hedges and tidied the surrounding area, helping to give the outdoor space a much-needed refresh.
They also helped rejuvenate the garden by laying bark, setting up planters and adding topsoil, creating the foundations for a space that could be enjoyed by the local community.
Bringing Plants from JM Nursery to the Community
The following week, plants grown at our on-site JM Nursery were delivered to the Family Hub, ready for local families to plant themselves.
The planting scheme was carefully considered, with plants selected for two different planters — one designed as a sensory planter, providing a variety of textures, forms and experiences and another focused on introducing bright, colourful planting to the space.
This added another layer to the project, giving families the opportunity to get involved, connect with nature and take ownership of a space within their local community.

The Value of Collaboration
Projects like this demonstrate how collaboration can create meaningful outcomes beyond the construction site.
By bringing together the expertise and resources of a commercial landscaping business, local authority and construction partner, we were able to contribute practical skills while supporting a community facility that provides an important space for local families.
For us, social value isn’t simply about ticking a box or fulfilling a project commitment. It’s about identifying opportunities to create genuine, tangible benefits for local communities and making sure our work has a positive impact wherever possible.
We’re proud to work collaboratively with clients, contractors and local organisations to deliver social value through practical action — whether that’s supporting community spaces, sharing our expertise or contributing time and resources.
Creating a Positive Legacy
Our work at South & Central Walsall Family Hub may have involved benches, bark, planters, topsoil and plants, but the bigger picture is about much more than landscaping.
It’s about helping to create a space where people can feel comfortable, connected and supported.
A big thank you to Walsall Council and Bowmer + Kirkland for the opportunity to collaborate on this project, and to everyone involved in helping bring the space to life.
For us, this is what delivering social value is all about — working together to leave a positive legacy within the communities we serve.
